Lauderdale County Sheriff Steve Sanders has confirmed that authorities have narrowed their search for escaped prisoner Curtis Ray Watson to an area just west of Cooper Creek just off Highway 371.
Sanders said the extreme heat has hampered the search as search dogs are struggling with underbrush and the heat as they stay on the trail of the man wanted for the murder of Department of Corrections Official Debra Johnson.
Sanders said the search for Curtis continues and authorities hope to have a resolution to the situation soon.
Today, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced the State of Tennessee is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the apprehension, arrest and conviction of Curtis Watson, who is a suspect in the murder of Tennessee Department of Correction Administrator Debra Johnson.
The state’s reward was one of several offered in the case. The FBI and US Marshals have each offered $10,000 in the case, while the TBI has offered $2,500 and ATF $5,000. The entire amount of reported rewards so far is up to $52,500.
“We need Tennesseans’ help,” said Governor Bill Lee. “I urge any person with information that can help us locate and apprehend this individual to contact the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation immediately.”
A Blue Alert has been issued for Watson, and he has been added to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Most Wanted List. Watson is considered extremely dangerous.
